Jailbroken!

So! I took the plunge and jailbroke my iPhone 3GS last night. I have to admit that I was nervous about jailbreaking, even though I had jailbroken both my old iPhones (2G & 3G). Regardless, the process was extremely easy and went quickly and smoothly.

I was most concerned about the speed of the device after it was jailbroken. All around, I have to say, I’m very pleasantly surprised! Its still fast. Winterboard (the iPhone theming app for jailbroken iPhones) now has a setting to only load on the springboard, so it won’t slow down any apps. This makes a huge difference and the phone feels just as snappy as ever.

So far this is my most positive experience with a jailbroken phone. I just love it.

  1. Anth 7.10.09 / 9p.m. Bah! Seeing your screenshot has left me very conflicted! This is the 1st time I haven't necessarily had to jailbreak my iPhone to use it. With the extra speed though, I just might take the plunge anyway! Nice theme btw!
  2. MS 7.11.09 / 7a.m. That is much nicer than my 3GS with the standard black background! Before I plunge into jailbreaking, do you mind answering a few questions? 1. "Winterboard ... now has a setting to only load on the springboard, so it won’t slow down any apps." Does that mean it only themes the icons/pages and not the apps themselves? Before this setting was added, did it really theme up the applications too? Sorry, I'm completely lost when it comes to the winter/spring/summerboard lingo. 2. Do they have hacks to where you can have small status icons on the menubar, similar to something found on BlackBerries? I hate it when I don't hear an email come in and have to unlock my phone every so often to make sure I didn't miss an important one. 3. What theme is that? If so, do you mind sharing? Thanks in advance for answering my questions! I appreciate it.
